Next steps for Awareness to Action

Question:

Dear Stop It Now!,

I just completed your Awareness to Action workshop. I want to take the next step in helping children live healthy, abuse-free lives.  What do you recommend for next steps and where can I find resources and materials to support what I learned in Awareness to Action?

Dear Involved Adult,

Thank you for attending this workshop and thank you for taking additional steps in preventing child sexual abuse. I'm so glad that you've been inspired to learn more about what you can do.

To start, I'd like to suggest that you check out our website page: Take Action. There are so many actions that adults can take to create safer environments from educating themselves about the issue and healthy sexual development to teaching others about prevention.

In addition to the links below to some of our prevention tip sheets and guidebooks, visit our Online Help Center for guidelines on responding to needs all along the prevention level continuum.  You may also find our resource listing pages on Child Sexuality Development and Behaviors and Books and Publications on Child Sexual Abuse  helpful. We have also recently added resources for Parents with children who have disabilities that can be helpful for any adult responsible for the care of a child with a disability. We know that when adults feel better informed, they are better prepared to speak up and act whenever there is a question of keeping a child safe. Prevention opportunities can often come at the most unexpected moments, and when you feel comfortable in speaking out about any concerns you have, then you are creating a circle of safety.

Look for these opportunities, not necessarily at a "crisis" moment, but in those day-to-day interactions between children and between children and adults. Sometimes it is as simple as letting a child know that they have an adult to go to when they have a question or worry about their safety.

Preventive steps can really be taken by anyone, in any role with children.  Adults like you help us move closer to the goal of creating safe environments so that no child ever has to experience sexual abuse. Again, thank you for being a part of creating that culture of safety for everyone.

Take care,
Stop It Now!
