Is child sexual abuse really such a big problem?

YES. As many as one in three girls and one in seven boys will be sexually abused at some point in their childhood, according to most reliable studies of child sexual abuse in the United States. That means in a kindergarten class of 20 children, at least four are likely to be sexually abused before they graduate from high school.

Surveys of U.S. adults consistently show that more than one in five adults were sexually abused during childhood. That means that there are potentially 45 million adults now living in the U.S. who were sexually abused as children.
